Savanna’s Underground Dwellers

Beneath the savanna rocks lies a world of darkness, a secret place filled with endless labyrinths, teeming with thousands of crawling animals, such as the naked mole-rat. It is the only mammal whose life revolves around a queen, similar to ants. From its wrinkled, hairless skin and tiny eyes to its formidable teeth, the naked mole-rat belongs to a class of its own. Yet these traits also allow the mammal to survive efficiently in its environment and avoid the many dangers above it in the African grasslands. Using advanced filming techniques, such as reconstructing its habitat in a large tank and slow-motion macro cameras, this documentary discreetly explores this underground world.
