Originally, the lush Atlantic Forest stretched from northern Brazil to Argentina. Then came the settlers, and the trees fell to the onslaught of stones, concrete, steel, and plastic. Only isolated patches remained. Today, all of this is changing thanks to men and women with good intentions, determined to breathe new life into the weary forest. With all the locals devoted to a unique reforestation program, life now fills the biological corridors established between the green islands of the fragmented forest. Before our eyes, vividly colored frogs, howler monkeys, and sloths are rebuilding an ecosystem we thought lost forever.
