Biography

Born in 1976, Karim Moussaoui is the author of three short films and one medium-length film Les jours d’avant, notably (selected at Locarno, Clermont-Ferrand, Brive; Grand Prix at the Premiers Plans festival in Angers and nominated for César in the Best Short Film category). His first feature En attendant les hirondelles, whose screenplay, winner of the Gan Foundation 2016, was developed within the Cinéfondation residency at the Cannes Film Festival and the Angers Workshops, was selected at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 in the Un Certain Regard section. Karim Moussaoui is also a founding member of the Chrysalide cultural association promoting cinema in Algiers and was responsible for cinema programming at the French Institute of Algiers for several years. In 2020, he directed the short Les Divas du Taguerabt for the Paris Opera\'s 3e Scène, in which he questions what an opera would be in Algerian musical culture. This short is part of the collective film Celles qui chantent. In 2024, his second feature L\'Effacement, led by Sammy Lechea, was selected for the 17th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival.
